Welcome to my new home. Feel free to make yourself comfortable.

Oh hello there, welcome to my new home. Please come in and have a look around and make yourself comfortable.

The time has come for me to stop mooching and find a new home for my blog. Taras has graciously hosted my blog for years but I have decided to finally take some time and move it to another host. The great part is that I moved it to WordPress so the UI is very familiar, I was able to import all my old posts (well you can do this for other blogs as well actually) and WordPress allows me to keep my URL without adding the (for a small fee of course).

So welcome to my new home. I realize I have been a little slack in my blogging responsibilities but I hope that my new location and layout will help get me back into it.

…well Jason and I are probably playing Guitar Hero III.

After looking and looking and waiting and waiting and looking and looking and waiting….I was finally able to get us a copy of Guitar Hero III for Wii.  I ordered it last week and have been impatiently waiting for it to arrive.  It was delivered to the local post-office on Monday but wasn’t available for pick-up until yesterday.  Last night we headed up to the post-office on our dog walk (the post-office is in the back of the 7-Eleven so it is open late) and just as we were arriving I realized that I had forgotten my ID.  Dumbass!!

Sooooooo, we went home and I picked up my ID and the car keys and headed back out to pick up my parcel.  Jason didn’t know what I had ordered so he was a little confused as to what could possibly be so exciting that I couldn’t wait until tonight to pick up.  He was just as excited as I was when he saw the box however.  We couldn’t wait to play it so at 9:30 last night we unwrapped our new toy and got the rockin’ started.  Our concert lasted until 11.  We would have kept going but 5:40AM comes very quickly when you go to bed at 11 so we had to tuck our bands in for the night and head to bed.  We can’t wait to get home tonight!

After a lot of hunting and a lot of eBay bidding I was finally able to procure a Wii for Jason for his birthday.  His birthday is actually on Tuesday but I gave him his present early – mostly because I wanted to play it. 🙂  He is not really a video game guy but he did seem quite interested in the Wii so I jumped at the chance to get one into the house.  I got it set up last night and we gave it a trial run.  We LOVED it!!!!  It is sooooo much fun.  Totally not like any other video game.  In fact, my right arm is actually stiff this morning from a few marathon tennis matches and a couple of boxing knock-outs.  It is awesome!!  I can’t wait to pick up another controller so we can go head-to-head!

What brings you by?

Filed under: Random Ramblings,Techy Tales — by Gwen Resmer Patchett @ 9:59 pm

I haven’t looked at my blog stats lately but tonight I decided to check in and see how the ol’ traffic is coming along.  I was pleased to see that visits are up.  I was expecting more of a drop because my posting as been so sporadic but I was relieved to see that you haven’t given up on me.

In addition to hits, I took a look at some of the search terms that brought people to me.  Here are some of the interesting ones.

mononucleosis and jogging” My suggestion?  If you can find the energy to jog – go right ahead.

pumpkin pie in mississauga”  Yep, I did take some there and is was goooooooood.

none of you dumbasses know”  Well you might want to narrow that one down because by definition there are lots of things dumbasses don’t know.

dumbasses at work”  Um, I think I will just leave that one alone.

Where is all the porn?

Filed under: Random Ramblings,Techy Tales — by Gwen Resmer Patchett @ 9:16 pm

I am used to seeing the various offers for sex toys, pills, and various other porn related items in the comment list of my blog but lately I have been inundated with links for free ring tones.  Now normally this wouldn’t be a big deal but the fact that each one of these messages takes up about a page and a half, they are quite annoying.  I can’t just scroll through them quickly like I can with the trusty porn ones.  These ones take forever.  Sheesh, I never thought I would miss the sex spam but I think I’d gladly trade the ring tone links for some good old fashioned porn.

Cool Music and New Bits

Filed under: Random Ramblings,Techy Tales — by Gwen Resmer Patchett @ 10:21 pm

I was first introduced to Animusic by Taras a few months ago, but someone else I know sent me this link today and I thought I would share it with those of you that might not be familiar with it.  Take a listen to Animusic Pipe Dream or any of the other ones listed on the site.  It is really quite cool.

In other news, you will now notice a little tag at the bottom of my posts that reads “on this day…”.  My blog host was kind enough to install a little plug-in I found that automatically links you to the post I did on this day last year.  Now that my blog is a year old I thought it was a cool idea to see what I was writing about back then. Cool eh?

Intended for August 10

I didn’t write this last night because I was really tired by the time I got home and so sleep was more of a priority.

Last night I headed out to my first live tennis match.  The Rogers Cup is on at York and I decided that this was the year I would finally make it there.  (Apparently this is becoming a theme as I seem to be getting out to do the stuff I always put off).  I was originally planning to go on Saturday but due to some scheduling conflicts and a very generous gesture from my friend Eva, I ended up swapping my Saturday tickets for a chance to experience the match in an executive suite.  Yeehaw!!  It was pretty cool actually.  Free beer (I only had two Eva so no need to worry about me making a scene), free food, free Haagen Daas and great seats.  It was a fun night.

I also wanted to point out a new addition to my “Cool Peeps” list.  I have added Tamara Shuper to my list of worthy links.  Most of you are familiar with the antics and writing style (well there isn’t much of a style really seeing as he hasn’t written anything in ages…tsk tsk tsk) of her brother Taras but I encourage you to take a visit to Tamara’s site.  She is damn funny!!  She often has me chuckling to myself.  Welcome to the group Tamara – glad to add another blog to my daily reading list.

I haven’t disappeared – just having issues

Filed under: Techy Tales — by Gwen Resmer Patchett @ 6:32 pm

As many of you have noticed my blog has been unavailable for the past couple of days.  Unfortunately Taras has been having some internet issues and so our blogs have been down.  It’s funny how my blog has become such a part of my day.  Well it seems as those the blog is back so I will try to find some worthy ideas to celebrate its return.

Recycling at its best!

Ten Dollar Digital CameraThanks to one of my favourite sites ( I stumbled upon a wee project that I found intriguing.  Someone has documented a few short steps on how to turn a disposable digital camera into a reusable one.  Very cool!!

Now seeing as I tend to get digital cameras shipped to me in bulk, I personally don’t need this but I still think it’s a cool idea.  And it takes pretty decent photos.

What was the last thing you copied?

Filed under: Techy Tales — by Gwen Resmer Patchett @ 8:22 pm

I was feeling geeky tonight and spent some time reading some miscellaneous techy sites.  During my trip around the internet, I came across a little blurb on about how the standard security settings in IE makes the contents of your clipboard accessible to the world.  Seeing as we all tend to copy and paste confidential information, I figured I would pass along the info as a public service announcement.  I’ve taken Jerry and Missy’s advice and changed my settings.
