Hip Hip Hip Hooray! The condo is rented!

Filed under: Random Ramblings — by gresmer @ 9:45 am

I rented my condo last night.  I am sooooo relieved to have that done and sorted out.  They move in next week.  It will be weird to have someone else living in my space but now that I am out of it and quite happily ensconced in my new home with Jason, it really isn’t that hard to let it go.  It has become more of an asset and less of a home.

Look at me…I’m a landlord!

Rejection hurts

Filed under: Random Ramblings — by gresmer @ 10:58 am

I can’t deal with the rejection anymore.  I thought I had another viable tenant but she went to look at one last place and even though she claimed mine was awesome, she actually took the other one.  Why doesn’t anyone want to rent my condo??  It’s such an awesome place.  Why oh why doesn’t anyone want it??  I know what it’s like to have no one want you – poor thing – it’s starting to have self-esteem issues.

Now they want it, now they don’t

Filed under: Random Ramblings — by gresmer @ 10:00 am

My condo rental saga continues.  I’ve had a number of people who were really interested while they were there and then they leave and I get an email a couple of hours later saying they changed their minds.  Fickle people!!  I thought I had found a tenant but now he doesn’t want it.  So the hunt continues.  I am beginning to think that just selling the damn thing would be less hassle.  Sigh…

Update to the post from yesterday

Filed under: Random Ramblings — by gresmer @ 8:31 am

Another person showed up just as we were leaving. She liked the place but it was one of the first she saw and so she went off to see some other places for comparison. I also have another guy that couldn’t make it yesterday that would like to see it this week so it wasn’t a complete bust I guess.

Not so many people and far more homes apparently

Filed under: Random Ramblings — by gresmer @ 1:39 pm

17 people contacted me to say they were interested in renting my condo. I responded to all of them. 4 people confirmed they would be by today. 1 person actually showed up – and she is only looking for July 1st availability. So my search for a tenant is not off to as positive a start as I was thinking it would be given the initial interest. Oh well, I guess I shouldn’t have expected to get it sorted less than a week after I posted the ad. I should be thankful that anyone is interested I suppose. Although, after having spent the day sitting in my condo on a lawn chair waiting for people to show up and dealing with stolen internet that is SLOW, I am feeling less than positive. My life as a landlord isn’t off to a roaring start.

So many people, so few homes

Filed under: Random Ramblings — by gresmer @ 9:07 am

I posted an ad for my condo on Monday and before the end of the day I had 14 requests to see it – many of them from people who are moving to Toronto shortly.  So look out Toronto – I will be single-handedly increasing your population by 1 whole person.

$300? Seems like a bargain I guess.

Filed under: Random Ramblings — by gresmer @ 9:10 pm

Tonight as I was crammed onto the streetcar with about 500 other people who all felt the need to touch me I noticed an ad on the side of a bus shelter that just seemed too weird.  There was a sheet of paper taped up to the side of the wall that read “Cheap Divorce – $300.  Call some number”  What was weirder than the sign is that people had actually ripped off a few of the little tabs at the bottom that had the phone number on them.  Is this really how people are getting legal advice these days?  Is this the new way to find that person to help you through a very difficult time in your life?  You want to rent an apartment or sell a car?  Okay fine – I’ll accept the handmade sign taped to the side of the bus shelter.  But for cheap divorce services?  Come on!!

Man my furniture is heavy!

Filed under: Random Ramblings — by gresmer @ 9:38 am

Well it is all done.  After a full day of packing on Friday and a full day of hauling on Saturday, I am fully moved.  I still have some cleaning to do at my condo but all the furniture is out and either at my new house or in storage.  My house is a mess, my body aches and I am covered in bruises but I am sooooo glad to have it done.  Now I can just focus on renting my condo and not have to worry about all the moving stuff.

I’m getting too old for moving my own shit.  Next time we are hiring movers – I don’t care what it costs!!

It’s moving day

Filed under: Random Ramblings — by gresmer @ 9:18 pm

As a Canadian, July 1st is a special day for me but after last year July 1st will be special to me for a reason that has nothing to do with patriotic pride.  On July 1st I met Jason.  I started using LavaLife in March to meet new people and to get out more.  I went on a couple of dates with a few guys but didn’t really experience the “spark”.  That is until I met Jason.  His emails were funny and clever.  We shared a lot of the same interests and opinions and right from the start we connected.  We passed emails back and forth for about a week and then he asked me out.  July 1st was our first date.  We went to Harbourfront for a drink and talked, walked around and talked some more, had some food and talked, walked and talked and talked.  When we had exhausted all the entertainment that Harbourfront had to offer we found ourselves reluctant to say goodbye.  To extend our evening we decided to go to a movie – where we didn’t talk because really people don’t like talkers at the movies.  Our first date lasted 8 hours and it was the easiest date I’ve ever been on.  Our second and third dates were also marathon events and they didn’t seem long enough.  Then I went to France for 2 weeks – nice girl eh?

Through the summer we had an amazing time getting to know each other.  Our relationship has always been comfortable, easy and so much fun.  Falling in love is such a great way to spend your time!  In December we decided to give living together a try.  Linda was here from England and was going to be staying at my condo so we figured it was a good time to see how being together 24/7 was going to work for us.  It worked very well and by the end of December we didn’t even need to discuss it for us both to know that I was staying.

I moved most of my clothes and a few other things and we started our cohabitation.  The living together is going great but the packing up my condo is not going quite so smoothly.  I hate to pack and so it has taken me forever to get around to finishing the process.  I have moved a few things and packed up some stuff for storage but the bulk of my stuff is still just sitting in my condo gathering dust.  But not for much longer.  I have rented the storage location, I have booked the truck and we have formulated a plan.  This weekend the condo gets emptied.  Some stuff comes to my new home and some goes into storage until we have a place big enough to fit it.  While I am not looking forward to that actually packing and hauling of stuff, I am looking forward to getting it done and over with.

I am also looking for a tenant so if you know of anyone looking to rent a 1 bedroom condo in a great location let me know.

Oh and to add to our little adventure, Jason and I are getting a puppy.  We get our little 8 week old lemon beagle puppy on May 26th.  We can’t wait!

Frickin’ pathetic!!

Filed under: Random Ramblings — by gresmer @ 6:33 pm

How pathetic am I??  I haven’t even logged into my blog for weeks.  I owe everyone a ton of updates and I just can’t get around to posting.

I have pictures from my birthday to share.

I have pictures from my weekend in Quebec City to share.

I have news about the new addition to my family to share.  (I’m talking about a dog here – not a baby so nobody freak out.)

I have news about my condo to share.

I have news about life in general to share.

What I don’t have is time.  Where oh where does the time go??

I will try to get some stuff up for you to read by the end of the week.  Hopefully I won’t have lost my entire audience by then.  Man I suck!!
