It’s all about timing

Imagine a world covered in pristine white snow.  Imagine the trees covered in white blankets, the air filled with white fluffy snowflakes.

In December this would be a postcard-perfect picture.  In January – it sucks!!  In December it makes everything festive and happy.  In January it makes everything cold, wet and annoying.  Oh how much your perspective can change in just one month.

One down, one to go

It has been 9.5 years since I graduated from University and I just finished paying my Ontario student loan.  I just made the final payment today.  Wooooohoooo!  Now I just have to get my Federal one out of the way and I will be free at last.  In addition to my regular monthly payments, I have been making lump payments on them for the past 6 months or so to get them paid off faster and it feels good to have at least one of them removed from the list.

Yawn…ow…yawn…oooooow!!

I just completed Day 5 of 6 of my first week back at the gym.  It was a really good cardio session actually but man I am tired and sore.  My quads are protesting my every step and I am soooo tired.  I can’t wait until I am back into the routine and my body stops aching.  I also can’t wait until the weather warms up because I can tell you that going outside at 6AM in the freezing cold is no way to wake up every morning…no way at all!!

Whoosh! And there goes 17 years!

It was 17 years ago today that I moved in with my foster parents.  It was such a long time ago but I remember the day very well.  It was the day my life took a serious turn for the better.  So while the day doesn’t bring with it the same emotional burden it did for years, I will always remember January 24th as being an important day in the life of Gwen.  I am actually quite blessed to have had a few of those “changed my life” days.  Very blessed indeed!  Perhaps I’ll dedicate a future post to sharing a few of them with you.

Oh man, that’s going to hurt in the morning

Open scene.

Clock turns to 5:55AM.  Alarm rings.
Gwen:  “Groan”
Jason: “I guess we could always go to the gym tonight”
Gwen: “Groan”
Jason: “Do you want to sleep or get up?”
Gwen: “What I want is to wake up thin and fit”
Jason: “But just think of how great it will feel when you accomplish your goals.”
Gwen (rolling out of bed onto her feet):  “Whatever!  That’s bullshit!  That’s just what thin and fit people say to make you feel better about having to drag your ass to the gym at 6AM.”
End scene

As you can see, Jason is in for a real treat in the “waking up Gwen” department.  He does tend to find my early morning grumbling amusing though so I guess that is a good sign.

I have now successfully gone to the gym two days in a row.  I realize that doesn’t sound like much but seeing as it has been months since I’ve been, it is an accomplishment.  Today was weight day and I realized how soft my muscles have become.  My muscles are already protesting so I am anticipating some serious stiffness tomorrow morning when I roll out of bed at 5:55AM to hit the gym for my next cardio routine. Even with feeling tired and sore though – I am quite pleased that I am getting back into the gym.  I didn’t realize how much I missed it and once I get past the sore muscle and fatigue stages, I’m sure I’ll enjoy it even more.

Renewed dedication…or at least that’s the plan

Filed under: Health Highlights — by gresmer @ 10:07 am

I have joined a gym.  I’ve actually never had a gym membership before because I was using the gym in my building but I have moved (more on that development later) and so I was in need of a new place to work-out.  (And believe me – I need to get back into working out!!  Last week I got on the scale for the first time in months and it wasn’t pretty!)  So as of this morning I am a member at 99 Sudbury – a new gym in King West Village that is undergoing serious renovations but should be quite the place when finished.  This morning Jason and I headed over just after 6AM and put in a 40 minute cardio session.  Not a bad start seeing as I haven’t been on a treadmill in a loooooooong time.  We were the only ones there as well so it was like having our own personal gym.

I’m excited to be getting back into the gym actually.  I have been feeling pretty tired and lethargic lately and I think it is due to bad food choices and a lack of exercise.  Hopefully this will help.  I’ll keep you posted on my progress.

Tick tock, tick tock…

Good grief – my posting schedule is getting ridiculous!  I have lots to say but I just can’t seem to find the time or the words to communicate anything.  And the longer I go without posting, the more I have to say and getting back into the process seems more daunting with each passing day.

I will try to get back into some sort of a regular schedule in the coming weeks.  I miss the outlet and I could use a place to discuss my thoughts these days.  I have lots of things rolling around in my brain and it helps to get at least some of them out on the screen.  So don’t abandon me completely.  I know I have said it before and didn’t hold up my end of the deal but I will say it again and hope for new results – I will be back and I will have things to say.  Now Gwenny – hang on to that goal and stop being so damn lazy!!

Welcome 2007….cough…sniff…!

Filed under: Random Ramblings — by gresmer @ 2:45 pm

I just wanted to post a quick note to wish everyone a Happy New Year and to say that I hope that everyone has a spectacular 2007!

After a busy but pleasant Christmas, I rang in the New Year by waking up with a nasty cold.  I have been sick in bed for the past 3 days.  What a wonderful start to 2007 eh?
