Hola Mexico

I’m not exactly sure how, but I made it through one heck of a week and now I am just getting some final things sorted out before I head off to bed to get some rest before our flight tomorrow.  At 6:10AM tomorrow morning, Jason and I will on our way to sunny Mexico.  I can’t wait – I am in need of vacation!!!  Work has been crazy lately and I am looking forward to just sitting in the sun, relaxing and rejuvenating.

We are headed to Playa del Carmen and my trusty weather source says we are in for lots of sun and temperatures in the high 20s.  Okay, sun, sand and sea – here we come!

New approach

Tonight I came home to a voicemail message from a telemarketer that had an interesting hook.  The message started out with “I got your name from a friend, but now that I look at the number I think I may have dialled the wrong one.  I will leave the message anyway in case it is the right number.”  The woman then went on to try and sell me on the benefits of a dating service.  I get tons of calls but I will admit this was the first time I got this one.  Is pretending to call the wrong number supposed to entice me to call them?  Interesting technique.  I should call them back and let them know I’m not in the market for a new boy.  I happen to have a great one already.

A travelling I will go…

November is proving to be a pretty busy month for me travel wise.  Next weekend I am headed up north to pay a visit to my home town.  As most of you know, I grew up in Mattawa – a small town in Northern Ontario (well technically it is the “Near North” but hell, it’s up there so let’s just call it Northern Ontario and be done with it). 

At the end of the month to make up for taking a trip to a place that has already had 3 snowstorms this year, I am headed to sunny Mexico.  A week spent relaxing in the sun should be just the thing to end a busy month.  I am really looking forward to it!

And if that wasn’t exciting enough, when I get back, Linda will be here!!!!!  She will be here for almost a whole month and I can’t wait!!!  Oh the fun we will have!!

What brings you by?

I haven’t looked at my blog stats lately but tonight I decided to check in and see how the ol’ traffic is coming along.  I was pleased to see that visits are up.  I was expecting more of a drop because my posting as been so sporadic but I was relieved to see that you haven’t given up on me.

In addition to hits, I took a look at some of the search terms that brought people to me.  Here are some of the interesting ones.

“mononucleosis and jogging” My suggestion?  If you can find the energy to jog – go right ahead.

“pumpkin pie in mississauga“  Yep, I did take some there and is was goooooooood.

“none of you dumbasses know“  Well you might want to narrow that one down because by definition there are lots of things dumbasses don’t know.

“dumbasses at work“  Um, I think I will just leave that one alone.

Workout advice

Tonight I learned a little something that I thought I would share with you.  If you find yourself on the treadmill with a shoe that needs to be adjusted, I STRONGLY suggest you pause the treadmill before attempting to adjust your shoe.  Being the spaz that I am, I tried to balance myself on the side of the treadmill and ended up slamming my left leg down onto the track.  As if the impact of that wasn’t enough, my leg was then dragged to the end where Tready tried to suck it under as the track turned around the end of the treadmill.  Now this might sound like fun but let me assure you – it HURTS!!  And all this happened in the first 5 minutes of my workout.  I really wanted to just stop because my leg really hurt but I didn’t and I successfully finished a 50 minute workout.  I’ll think twice about my shoe adjustments from now on.

Gwen and Tready – together again

Last night after walking home I headed to the gym for a 45 minute visit with Tready (aka: the treadmill in my building).  It has been a long time since Tready has seen me but it went pretty well.  I forgot how great it feels to get in a good workout.  I am planning to rekindle our committed relationship in the weeks to come.

Highway driving experience? Check!

Yesterday I headed out to Ajax and for the first time I was able to choose a route that involved roads with speeds over 80 km/hr.  First I headed east on the Gardiner on my way to the Don Valley Parkway.  Then I headed up the DVP to the 401 and then east to Ajax.  The traffic was relatively light and my nerves were pretty good and I must have been doing okay because my co-pilot was relaxed enough to catch up on a little sleep on the way.

I drove the speed limit pretty much the whole way (much to the horror of my father) but I am quite pleased with my first highway experience.  Now the next milestone is to drive alone.  That one will be weird but I am looking forward to it.  Chances are I will spend most of the time talking to myself because I have become accustomed to having someone sitting beside me.  Oh well – I talk to myself everywhere else – why not in the car too?

G2 for Gwen Too!!!

I passed!!!  YEEHAW I passed!!!!  I am now the proud holder of a G2 license.  My test took a whole 6 minutes and I passed with a 93% score.  The only criticisms I got were that I am too cautious especially at left turns and that I need to be closer to the solid line when making a left from a really wide lane.  Not too shabby eh?  I am soooooooooo relieved!!  I can’t wait to get out on my own – that will be very strange I am sure but I am looking forward to it.
