Man, I suck!!!

Filed under: Random Ramblings, Social Subjects — by gresmer @ 3:42 pm

A whole week with no posts???  What the heck is going on?? I feel like I am turning into one of those bloggers who neglect their public with claims of being too busy. People like um, oh I don’t know…Taras perhaps?  Mathew maybe?

Well I am not quite as bad as those two but a week is quite a long time to go without giving my peeps something new to read so I will try and rectify that today.

Let’s see…what have I been up to lately?  Well two weekends ago, Jason and I went to see a play called Apple at the Factory Theatre.  It was pretty intense and not exactly what we were expecting but it was quite good and we really enjoyed it.  It was fun to see a play in such a small theatre – it is a very different experience to the large productions I normally go to.

Last week a bunch of us from work went out on Wednesday to raise a glass (or two) to wish Wayne well in his next work adventure.  Wayne has moved on to another job and it was good to get out and celebrate with him.

On Friday, Sean and I went to play poker with our regular poker crowd.  Unfortunately I didn’t win this time.  In fact I came last in 2 of the 3 games – that is my worst showing ever.  I guess my brain just wasn’t into it.  It could also have been related to the 6 Heineken I drank…um yeah – that might have affected my playing.

On Saturday I went to see my driving guy to get in a last lesson before my G1 exit test that is scheduled for this coming Friday.  After the session I got some good news and some not so good news.  He says that I have mastered the whole driving a standard thing and that my parking skills are good enough but that he thinks I am not alert enough.  Now most of this probably stems from the fact that he is always honking the horn and I choose not to, but the comment depressed me all the same. I was aware of all the things going on around me but I guess because I didn’t honk or point them out he thought I didn’t notice them.  I guess I will find out soon enough if the examiner has the same opinion.  My test is on Friday at 11:35 and I promise to give an update either way once I get home.

The rest of my weekend was spent knitting and lazing about.  I finished the back of my Mom’s sweater and now I am working on the front.  It is coming along at a pretty good pace so I am confident it will be completed in time for Santa to collect it and deliver it with the rest of his deliveries on his big night.

And that is my round-up of the past week or so.  It feels good to finally have a post actually.  I didn’t really realize I missed it until I started writing.  I really need to make this a part of my day again.

A new use for office supplies

Filed under: Random Ramblings — by gresmer @ 9:58 pm

I will post a proper entry later this week to catch up you on what’s going on in the land of Gwen but in the meantime take some time and visit the land of Stationary Movies.  Try and guess which flicks each of these posters represent.  I might have to spend some time crafting some scenes of my own with my miscellaneous office supplies.

PS:  I was able to get 13.  How many can you get?

Internal reflection of external conditions perhaps?

Filed under: Health Highlights, Random Ramblings — by gresmer @ 2:00 pm

Man I am tired this week!  I am not sure if I am still fighting off some germs or if I am just affected by the shit weather we have had all week but whatever it is, it is kicking my ass!  I just can’t seem to find any energy.  I am getting a lot of quality sleep at night but I just feel so tired all the time.  Needless to say I am looking forward to a very restful weekend.

Oh and I am about to start my latest knitting project.  My mom is the recipient of the annual sweater project and I went and picked up the supplies last night and now I am ready to get cracking.  Given my lethargic nature lately however I may find myself asleep at the needle.

Another year gone already

Filed under: Work Whatnots — by gresmer @ 12:04 pm

Yesterday I “celebrated” my 9 year work anniversary.  (That might explain the pain in my ears eh?) I can’t believe I have worked for the same company for 9 years.  I was such a kid when I started.  Fresh out of university – no idea what I wanted to do – just looking for something to keep me busy while I figured it out.

I can’t believe another whole year has passed.  Where does the time go??

The tonsils are connected to the…

Filed under: Health Highlights — by gresmer @ 4:36 pm

On Thursday I woke up with swollen tonsils.  They were painful but manageable.  Over the weekend they stayed swollen but were less painful.  Today however I have another problem.  Today, my tonsils don’t seem as sore but my ears are killing me.  Every time I swallow my ears ache and the ache in my ears has given me a nasty headache.  I took some Advil but it did very little to stop the pain.  In addition to the headache (or maybe it is because of it) my eyesight is a little off today.  My focus is not great and things seem a little burry.

Sigh…

Hey wait, where are all the distilleries?

Last night I headed out to enjoy an Art and Architecture walk in the Distillery DistrictFirst Canadian Place puts on a bunch of free events during the day and after work and this one sounded like fun.  I love the Distillery District and was looking forward to a tour around.

The night was cool and it actually snowed a bit but about 20 people still turned out.  (Yes, you read that right – it was snowing in Toronto on October 12 – WTF??)  Regardless of the weather though, it was a pleasant way to spend a couple of hours on a Thursday night.  After the walk we headed to Le Papillon which is one of my favourite restaurants for a late meal.  It was a great evening!

Tonight I am headed down to Tillsonburg for the weekend to enjoy a late Thanksgiving celebration with some family.  (The sister of my original recipe mother lives in Tillsonburg.) Mmmm, more turkey with all the fixings – oh and maybe another piece of pie.

Done for another year…almost

Filed under: Random Ramblings, Social Subjects — by gresmer @ 9:37 pm

I just ate my final piece of pumpkin pie for the season.  I do love pumpkin pie but I was happy to see the last piece disappear seeing as I have eaten some every day since Sunday.  Okay so I may have to have another sliver on the weekend as I am headed to Tillsonburg to celebrate a late Thanksgiving with my Aunt Lois and Uncle Yvan and my cousins. But after that - no more pumpkin pie for me.

So much to be thankful for

Filed under: Culinary Chronicles, Health Highlights, Social Subjects — by gresmer @ 1:58 pm

Another successful Thanksgiving is behind us and I have the fridge full of leftovers to prove it.  Thanks to a full weekend of work-outs I don’t think I gained any weight but I will admit I certainly didn’t lose any either.  But that is a small price to pay in order to enjoy the cornucopia of treats available.  Especially the all important and oh so necessary, PUMPKIN PIE!!!!  MMMMMMMMM!!!!

The weather was gorgeous this weekend and I was able to get in a bike ride on Sunday down by the waterfront as well as a long walk around my neighbourhood on Monday.  I just couldn’t let the nice weather pass without getting out to enjoy it.  We may not see many more days of those temperatures this year – it would be a shame to waste them.

One more sleep…

Filed under: Culinary Chronicles, Random Ramblings — by gresmer @ 8:22 pm

One more sleep until pumpkin pie time – WOOHOO!!  Today was scheduled to be my pie baking day but I almost had a panic attack due to a lack of ingredients.  I guess I wasn’t the only one in my neighbourhood that was baking pumpkin goodies this weekend because I had to go to three stores to find the pumpkin puree I needed.  When I saw it there on the shelf at Whole Foods I breathed a huge sigh of relief.  I would have scoured the city until I found it – I can’t go without my pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving.  That would be so wrong!!

So now I have 4 pumpkin pies sitting on my counter waiting to be devoured (not all by me of course).  One more sleep, one more sleep!!

Now that is more like it!

Filed under: Health Highlights — by gresmer @ 5:02 pm

This morning I headed out for an hour long walk (just over 5K).  It was a little chilly but I felt good to be out.  Following my walk, I got ready for work and then decided to ride my bike to the office.

A walk and a bike ride on the same morning.  That’s not bad for one day now is it?  Now if only I was that energetic every morning.  But I think I will choose to bask in the joy of this morning instead of wallowing in the disappointment of the mornings I did nothing.
