Princess to Domestic Engineer – all in one day

Filed under: Random Ramblings — by gresmer @ 11:34 pm

This morning I lay in bed enjoying the fact that I didn’t have to get up to go into the office today.  For some odd reason my office was closed today – even though the rest of the country has Monday off.  After I rolled out of bed I decided to head to my local Starbucks to pick up a latte.  (Note to Eva: I missed you this morning Eva – the Friday morning latte just isn’t the same without you.)  On the way back I decided that a pedicure would be a good way to enjoy my day off.  So I spent an hour being pampered, drinking my latte and enjoying the leisure time.  Unfortunately when I returned home the pampering was over.  My house was in dire need of some attention.  It still isn’t back to its regular degree of cleanliness but it is certainly a good start.

After my stint as a domestic engineer, I headed out to Ajax to have dinner with my parents.  I am off to France in 13 days and so this was the last opportunity I had to see them before I leave.

If you ask me, I’d say that was a pretty successful day off!

Recycling at its best!

Ten Dollar Digital CameraThanks to one of my favourite sites (lifehacker.com) I stumbled upon a wee project that I found intriguing.  Someone has documented a few short steps on how to turn a disposable digital camera into a reusable one.  Very cool!!

Now seeing as I tend to get digital cameras shipped to me in bulk, I personally don’t need this but I still think it’s a cool idea.  And it takes pretty decent photos.

What kind of world are you making?

Filed under: Philosophical Philings — by gresmer @ 9:48 pm

“We are what we think.  All that we are arises with our thoughts.  With our thoughts we make the world.”  Buddha

As I was reading this quote, I was thinking about the thoughts I had today and far too many of them were negative thoughts about other people.  Is that really the world I want to make?  Is that really the person I want to be?  I’m sure I can do better than that.

I’m all for being crafty but have we gone too far?

My shoutbox is still plagued by spam that for the most part is just annoying but sometimes there is a link that just makes you say, “HUH??”  Well tonight I saw one such link.  Tonight I had a new listing for “Homemade Sex Toys”.  Now what exactly would these be? Anyone want to offer some thoughts?  Come on – you know you want to.

Nada, Nichts, Niente

Sorry peeps but I have nothing to say tonight.  I spent my evening hanging out with a few of my favourite people and after some great conversation, some food, two pints and a relaxing walk home my brain just isn’t in the mood to pull together a blog post.  So I will leave my brain to its relaxation and call it a night.

Cue graduation march…

Filed under: Random Ramblings — by gresmer @ 9:15 pm

I have officially completed my driving course.  I am now a driving school graduate.  Woohoo!

Although I have finished the required number of hours, I do still need more practice so I will be taking a few more lessons with my instructor.  I picked up my certificate today though and so as far as the government is concerned – I am done.  I can’t quite believe I’m done already.  I can’t believe I have waited this long and that I was so nervous to get it all started.  Oh well, lesson learned – don’t avoid things you are afraid of – they may turn out to be nowhere near as scary or as hard as you think they will be.

Now only 4 more months before the big day.  G2 – here I come!

Shouldn’t we help ourselves first?

Filed under: Philosophical Philings — by gresmer @ 11:00 pm

Tonight as I was riding the subway home I noticed that someone had scratched the words “God Help Us” into the side of one of the doors.  I started thinking about that phrase and how many times people use it.  I started to think that maybe people use that as an excuse not to help themselves.

Many people that believe in “God” blame him for the bad stuff, call on him to help them with the hard stuff, thank him for the good stuff and ask him “why?” when they can’t figure out the confusing stuff.  Doesn’t this take away from their ability to do things for themselves?  If you believe that another entity is responsible for all that happens to you, do you ever take responsibility for your own actions?

Is this why our society is falling apart?  Is it because people do not feel responsible for their actions?  Is their belief in a higher power making it easier for them to escape that responsibility?  Isn’t belief in “God” supposed to make you a better person?  Is it possible that it is making people worse?

Or is it possible that the opposite is true?  Is it possible that our society is falling apart because fewer people believe in “God”?  Do we need more people to be asking “God Help Us”?

Sense of satisfaction

Filed under: Work Whatnots — by gresmer @ 9:15 pm

Tonight when I left the office my inbox was at zero, my tasks were all entered, my papers were all filed, my voicemail was empty and my desk was clean.  It felt great!!  I have a ton of stuff to do but for the first time in a very long time I feel like I am being productive.  I feel like I am actually getting tasks done.  My new approach to task management seems to be working.

Learn how to walk or change your shoes!

Filed under: Random Ramblings — by gresmer @ 10:03 pm

If you can’t walk in heels – don’t wear heels!  You would think this is a pretty obvious statement and yet I see women every day strolling around with horrible posture, taking baby steps and looking incredibly uncomfortable just because they are not sensible enough to slap some flat shoes on their feet.  I was stuck behind two such women on the street tonight.  They were taking up the entire sidewalk and were taking the tiniest steps because neither one of them could walk in their shoes.  Heels may be fashionable but I guarantee that whatever points you are winning with your fashion sense you are losing by looking like a complete fool.  So listen – if you can’t walk in ‘em – don’t buy ‘em dumbass!

More books please – must read

Filed under: Random Ramblings — by gresmer @ 9:07 pm

For the past few days I just haven’t been able to get in enough reading time.  Since the weekend I have finished a book I was already reading, read a whole new one, started a third and have spent a number of hours reading miscellaneous things on the web.  I just can’t seem to get enough.  My brain just seems to be craving intellectual stimulation these days.  I tend to go through stages where I read more but at the moment I just can’t get enough of the written word. Maybe the fact that I am gaining some control over my work/life balance has given my brain the time and energy to be interested in other things.

And on that note – I need to end this post so I can get back to my reading.
